Since 68th Year of Independence, We the people of Barak Valley in the Southern Region of Assam still awaits major developments in terms of Road, Air and Water connectivity to connect with the mainland of our country whereas our country is marking enormous achievements in other parts of our country. We must thank The Indian Railways to assure people of Barak Valley for the completion of Silchar-Lumding Broad Gauge Railway Connectivity within a stipulated date; it is a national project which took a very long time, nearly 17 years to come to the present position; We are eagerly waiting for the first passenger train to run by the stipulated date i.e March 2015. Of course, We the people of Barak Valley have resolved to accept the situation in “MEGA BLOCK” in consideration of their future prospect, but it pains us to bring it to your notice that we are yet to see satisfactory improvement of NH-44 (Now NH-6) to lessen the plight of the people of Barak valley by taking step to undertake the repair/up-gradation of NH-6 (NH-44 earlier) in spite of various prayers appeals from various institutions, organizations time to time. NH-6 (Earlier NH-44) which caters to the need of approx. a crore population of Southern Assam (Barak Valley), Tripura, Mizoram and parts of Manipur.We are eagerly waiting for completion of East-West Corridor which was initiated in Barak Valley in the year 2001. Of the 54 km length of the mahasadak in this valley, work is yet to start on the 31 km stretch between Balacherra and Harangajao in 13 years since foundation stone was laid; It is attributed in various news papers that The Environment Department & Forest department have reportedly delayed in giving their no – objection in respect of the construction of the Mahasadak belonging to these departments, is also one of the major impediments in the construction of the said project. The current Air fares are out of the reach of common people of this region. It is very troublesome for those in urgent need to go to various places from this region In view of the state of affairs narrated above; We The People of Barak Valley, a non-political, societal establishment newly formed with the prime objective of development of this region;
We have launched Campaign (via Missed Call) to seek mass support & participation from people of Barak Valley for the following Appeals
1. Appeal for special attention for Repair/maintenance & Road Safety of NH-6 (Jowai-Badarpur Highway) which is the only road to connect approx. 1 crore population of Southern Assam (Barak Valley), Tripura, Mizoram & parts of Manipur to the mainland of the country. 2. Appeal for intervention on the East West Corridor Project (Mahasadak) for 31 kms from Balacherra to Harangajao, Assam for earliest completion. 3. Better Air Services from Silchar with subsidized Air fare; considering present communication bottleneck of this region. 4.
